Math Placement Test

About the Math Placement Test

The Math Placement Test is administered via Accuplacer, a computerized test, and proctored by staff from the Center for Academic Success & Tutoring (CAST). Math tests are only available in-person and students receive up to 1 hour to complete the test in one sitting. Students will answer 20 multiple-choice questions. The use of calculators is not permitted unless an accessibility accommodation was approved by the Disability Services Center (DSC) before the test date. Please contact the DSC for additional information on testing accommodations.

Prior to the test, students are strongly encouraged to view the General Placement Testing Information page for further information. Please be advised: there are three different Math tests available. At the start of the test, a background screening question will determine which single test will be administered based on the math course / math placement level needed at Farmingdale State College. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their academic advisor or review their degree program requirements to ensure that they prepare for the correct test based on the math sequence needed. Once the test has been administered, it cannot be stopped or restarted, and re-takes are not permitted.

To prepare for Accuplacer, students may complete free Accuplacer sample questions (links are below).
