General Placement Testing Information

Students must register at least 24 hours in advance for a Placement Test. Tests are not offered on a walk-in basis.

Unauthorized individuals (e.g., parents, chaperones, etc.) are not permitted in the testing room during the test. Guests may wait in an adjacent lounge outside of the facility.

Students who need reasonable accommodations (such as a screen reader or extended testing time) must complete the form. The form must be submitted at least two business days prior to the test date to ensure adequate processing and approval time. The Disability Services Center (DSC) staff will notify the CAST staff of any approved accommodations before the test date.

Students must abide by all College policies in the testing facility, including the Academic Integrity Policy, Acceptable Use Policy for Computer Facilities, and the Student Code of Conduct.
What to Expect

Students must arrive on time. Late arrivals will not be given additional time and may be asked to reschedule for a future testing session.

Students are encouraged to arrive early if they have a preferred seating location in the testing room.

Students need a current FSC student ID card to enter the testing room.

New students who do not yet have an FSC student ID card may bring a valid high school student ID card or Driver’s License.

Students unable to present valid photo identification will not be allowed to access the testing facility.

Students who have been approved by the DSC for a calculator accommodation for the Math test are responsible for bringing their own device and backup batteries to the testing room. The CAST does not have calculators or batteries to loan students.

Students must turn off their cell phones and remove any electronic devices from their testing workspace (such as a smartwatch, headphones, etc.).

Any personal belongings must be stored with the proctor before starting the test.

The CAST staff are not responsible for loss or damage to any personal items brought to a placement testing session.

Students are responsible for following all testing procedures as directed by the proctor.

Students will receive a pencil and scrap paper upon request.

A limited number of earplugs will be available. Items are collected upon completion of the test. No other items are allowed in the testing workspace.

Students are prohibited from using cell phones in the testing room. Students caught using a cell phone or engaging in any forms of cheating during the test will be asked to immediately leave the room and their test will be invalidated. Students who have their test invalidated due to cheating will not be able to test again.

Proctors cannot answer any test-related questions.

Food is not allowed in the testing room. Bottled water may be allowed at the proctor’s discretion.

Bathroom breaks are not allowed except in certain circumstances.

Accuplacer automatically grades the Math Placement Test and results will be available upon completion of the test.

Test scores are final, and students are not permitted to re-take a placement test to achieve a higher score.

Students will need to contact their academic advisor or academic department to notify them of their Placement Test result to ensure proper course placement.
