Do your part!
Making small changes can add up to making a big difference. Do your part! Remember to reduce your waste, and when you can't, buy reusable items. If neither can be done, recycle your materials. You can also use alternative transportation, conserve water, and purchase sustainably produced items.
Living sustainably in the residence halls is important and contributes to environmental conservation.
Energy Conservation
Using natural light during the day and turning off lights when they are not in use is a basic yet effective way to be sustainable. If you are able to choose your lighting, you should choose energy efficient light bulbs.
Water Conservation
Turning off tap water while brushing your teeth or shaving and aiming for shorter showers are two ways that you can conserve water in the residence halls. Washing clothes in full loads or adjusting the settings for smaller laundry loads can also preserve water.
Waste Reduction
Recycling is an important way to reduce waste and be more sustainable in residence halls. You can request a recycling bin for your room from the office of sustainability here at Farmingdale. It is important to familiarize yourself with your campuses recycling guidelines. Composting is also an efficient way to limit waste. Using reusable items such as water bottles, utensils, and more will make an impact on campus waste reduction.
Transportation
Walking and biking to class or nearby destinations is another simple but effective way to be more sustainable while living on campus. Any way to reduce carbon emissions will help the environment
